A school bus collided with a train in Belgium and, according to an unnamed source cited by Reuters, there are fatalities. Local authorities have not confirmed the information.

According to local outlet Brussels Times, there were seven secondary school pupils on board the bus, along with a supervisor and the driver.

The collision took place at 8:15 in the morning, at a level crossing in Bagenhout in the East Flanders region, as announced by rail infrastructure manager Infrabel.

Images from a camera system show the barriers down and the lights red at the time of the accident.

The accident occurred one kilometre from the train station in Bagenhout, with the prosecutor stating that the train had already slowed down and initial indications suggest that the train driver applied the emergency brakes, "but was unable to avoid the collision."
