Iranian state television reported strikes across the country, while Israeli authorities announced the start of a military operation.
The Israeli armed forces said in the early hours that they had carried out air raids against “military targets” in western and central Iran, following ballistic missile launches by the Islamic Republic against Israel the previous day. The strikes mark the first such escalation since a ceasefire had been declared in the Middle East.
“The Israeli Air Force struck military targets belonging to the Iranian terrorist regime in western and central Iran,” the Israeli military said in a brief statement published on Telegram.
The renewed escalation comes after Iranian retaliatory attacks against Israel linked to Israeli strikes in Lebanon.
