At France’s Nice Airport, Iranian-born businessman and citizen of the entity in the north of Cyprus, Behdad Jafari, was detained at the request of the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus.
TC media report on family sources saying that French officials stopped and questioned Jafari following a complaint filed by the Greek Cypriot side alleging a “property violation.” The complaint reportedly concerns the alleged usurpation of Greek Cypriot properties located in the northern part of Cyprus.
The family stated that Jafari has been conducting legitimate business activities in the north for many years, insisting that no illegal action is involved and describing the detention as politically motivated. They expressed hope for a fair judicial process from the French authorities and called for diplomatic efforts to secure his immediate release.
Kibris Postasi noted that the incident has once again brought Cyprus’ long-standing property dispute into the international spotlight and has caused serious concern among business circles in the north.
The family voiced deep concern that Jafari’s lawful activities in the north are being portrayed as a crime, urging the public for support, fairness, and balanced judgment in the matter.
