A high turnout of left-wing voters and the deflation of the settlers and right-wing 'vote' seemed to be by all accounts, the decisive factors in Tufan Erhurman's crushing win and Tatar's resounding loss in the leadership elections.
The 'electoral' numbers were not dissimilar to the second round of elections in 2015 which saw Mustafa Akinci supported by the broader Turkish Cypriot left, cross the line at a clear distance from right-wing candidate Eroglu, who was leader for five years and failed to retain his position.
The turnout fifteen years ago was 64,12% with a slightly bigger attendance this time around at 64,87% as 141,615 people cast their ballot and almost 139 thousand were declared as valid. 218, 313 were registered to 'vote'.
Tufan Erhürman received 62.76% - 87,137 votes and Ersin Tatar 35.81% - 49,714 votes.
The five remaining candidates took 1.43% collectively, as follows:-
Arif Salih Kırdağ: 0.33% - 459 votes
Osman Zorba: 0.32% - 443 votes
Mehmet Hasgüler: 0.22% - 300 votes
Ibrahim Yazıcı: 0.24% - 330 votes
Hüseyin Gürlek (withdrew on Saturday): 0.19% - 257 votes
Ahmet Boran: 0.14% - 199 votes

Turnout even reached 70% in certain occupied areas.
It was 65.30% in occupied Nicosia, 63.85% in Famagusta, 63.60% in Kyrenia, 66.85% in Morphou, 65.65% in Trikomo, and 70.40% in Lefka, where the highest participation was recorded. The lowest turnout was recorded in the "district" of Kyrenia.
