President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides said on Sunday that a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres is expected to take place in March.
Speaking to the media after attending the memorial service of Grigoris Afxentiou at Machairas, the president said that a letter had been sent to the UN chief some time ago and that arrangements are being made through diplomatic channels for a meeting within March. He clarified that exact dates have not yet been announced as the meeting has not been finalised.
Christodoulides said the meeting is of particular importance in order to move forward, provided all parties involved in the Cyprus issue are committed, towards the resumption of talks and substantive discussions. He added that the objective is not talks for their own sake, but progress towards a solution within the agreed framework.
