Customs officers at the Ayios Dhometios checkpoint found about 200 kg of fresh meat and bones in a vehicle during routine inspections on November 6, 2025. The products originated from the north.

Both the load and the vehicle were seized. The driver abandoned the confiscated goods for destruction and paid €600 under an out-of-court settlement, after which the vehicle was returned.

As the authority responsible for enforcing the Green Line Regulations, the Customs Department urges the public to be cautious when purchasing goods from the occupied areas and to comply with the rules. It warns that animals and animal products pose significant public-health risks and may spread infectious diseases, since the required veterinary and health checks by state services are not carried out.
