Cyprus will welcome New Year’s Eve with distinctly wintry weather, as snow is expected to blanket the Troodos mountains while rain, isolated storms and possible hail affect much of the rest of the island.

Temperatures during the day will reach around 16°C inland and up to 18°C along the coast, while conditions in the mountains will remain cold, with temperatures hovering at just 4°C. As the evening progresses, cloud cover will increase and rain and thunderstorms are expected to persist, particularly overnight. Snowfall is forecast once again for higher elevations, with temperatures dropping to around 2°C in the mountains.

Overnight lows will fall to approximately 8°C inland and along the south and east coasts, while slightly milder conditions of around 13°C are expected in the west and north.

The New Year will begin with frost in mountainous areas. New Year’s Day is expected to be mostly overcast, with isolated rain mainly affecting the western parts of the island. Snowfall is forecast to continue in the Troodos range, maintaining winter conditions at higher altitudes.

Cloudy skies are expected to linger through the remainder of the week. Temperatures are forecast to remain relatively stable until Friday, when a further drop is expected, before gradually rising again from Saturday.
