The body of a man discovered on the Avdimou–Paramali coastline in Limassol in mid-January has been officially identified as that of Vladislav Baumgertner, a 53-year-old Russian national and Limassol resident who had been reported missing on 7 January.

According to an announcement by the British Bases Police, the identification was confirmed following DNA analysis of the body recovered on 14 January. Baumgertner’s next of kin have been informed.

The man was initially found by a member of the public on Avdimou beach, prompting the immediate notification of authorities. At the time, police confirmed that the deceased’s details were unknown, while noting that the location fell under the jurisdiction of the British Bases (SBA). Officers from the Limassol Police Directorate and the Criminal Investigation Department attended the scene, before responsibility for the case was assumed by the British Bases Police.

From the outset, authorities did not rule out a connection with the disappearance of Baumgertner, for whom police searches had been underway in the wider Pissouri area in the days preceding the discovery of the body.

The British Bases Police confirmed that the investigation into the circumstances and causes of death remains ongoing, with forensic examinations and investigative procedures continuing through their Criminal Investigation Department (CID). No conclusions have yet been announced, and authorities have not commented on whether criminal activity is suspected.
