Teen Critically Injured in Limassol Motorcycle Collision

A 17 year old is in critical condition at Limassol General Hospital after a motorcycle collision with a car on the city’s seafront, as police investigate the circumstances and prepare further procedural steps.

A 17 year old boy is being treated in critical condition at Limassol General Hospital after being involved in a serious road traffic collision on Thursday evening in Limassol. The incident occurred on Christodoulou Chatzipavlou coastal road and is under investigation by Limassol Traffic Police.

Circumstances of the collision

According to Limassol Traffic Police, the collision occurred at around 19:40. A car driven by a 24 year old woman was travelling eastbound when the driver attempted to turn right into the parking area of the coastal multifunctional park at the Limassol land reclamation site.

The car is reported to have cut across the path of a motorcycle travelling westbound. As a result, the 17 year old rider was critically injured and transported by ambulance to Limassol General Hospital.

Condition of the injured teenager

Police said the teenager sustained severe traumatic brain injuries. He is currently hospitalised in an intubated state and remains in critical condition.

Findings regarding the motorcycle

According to police findings, the off road type motorcycle did not have lights and was being ridden without a driving licence, insurance or a roadworthiness certificate. Testimony has also been secured indicating that the motorcycle was travelling at high speed and that the rider had earlier run a red traffic light near the city’s public garden.

The 17 year old was not wearing a protective helmet at the time of the collision.

Actions involving the car driver

The 24 year old driver of the car underwent both alcohol and drug testing, with negative results in both cases. She is expected to be arrested later today to facilitate police investigations.

Ongoing police investigation

Limassol Traffic Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision, examining all available evidence as part of the ongoing inquiry.
