Cypriot Lifelong Prisoner Found Dead in Nicosia Prison

The exact cause will be determined after a formal autopsy

A 63-year-old Cypriot prisoner serving a life sentence was found dead today in his cell at the Central Prisons.

According to the Prisons Department, staff discovered the inmate at around 15:55 with no visible signs of life. Medical Services of the Prisons Department arrived immediately and provided first aid. An ambulance was called, and the prisoner was transferred to the Accident and Emergency Department of the General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Prisons Department informed the Nicosia CID and the family of the deceased without delay.

Preliminary indications suggest the death may have been caused by a cardiac arrest. The exact cause will be determined after a formal autopsy, which is scheduled for this afternoon.

The Prisons Department is cooperating fully with the authorities as the investigation continues.
