Severe Winds Leave more than 20 Communities Without Power Across Cyprus

Electricity Authority warns of major delays at call centre due to surge in reports as crews work to restore supply

Widespread power outages were recorded across Cyprus on Tuesday morning following damage to the electricity network caused by strong winds and adverse weather conditions.

More than 20 communities across all districts were affected, with faults reported from early morning hours.

Nicosia

In the Nicosia district, outages were reported in Farmakas, Geri, Kakopetria, parts of Pera Chorio Nisou and parts of Pera. Interruptions were recorded between 06:32 and 08:26.

Limassol

In Limassol, areas affected include Erimi, Germasogeia (Potamos Germasogeias), Kantou, Prodromos and Souni, with the first outages recorded shortly after 06:50.

Larnaca

Power supply problems were also reported in Odou (part of the area), Ormideia, parts of Pervolia and Xylotymbou. In some cases, restoration was estimated around 09:00.

Paphos

In Paphos, Yialou, Miliou and Theletra were affected, with restoration estimated by 10:30. A scheduled outage was also underway in Latsi, expected to last until 16:00.

Famagusta

In the Famagusta district, Acheritou, Dasaki Achnas and Vrysoulles were without electricity.

The Electricity Authority of Cyprus said that due to overload at its customer service centre from incoming calls, there are significant delays in response times. Repair crews are working across the island to restore supply as quickly as possible.
