Foot and Mouth and its repercussions, managing the crisis and who's responsible, dominate the headlines today, while other main stories include the trial on the suicide of 15 year old teenager Stylianos, the AG's request to lift the Marinos Sizopoulos parliamentary immunity, the President's meeting with the unions and UK entry changes for holders of dual nationality.

The main headlines today.

 

In its main story headlined 'Desperate Livestock Farmers'. 'Alitheia' refers to an unprecedented crisis in the primary sector, claiming that a farmer attempted to set himself on fire at the entrance to the newspaper and the 'Alpha' television station. In a sepatate front page report, it also writes about President Christodoulides' letter to the UNSG and claims that a rift between the UN and Nicosia has been confirmed. It additionally refers to the EAC employees work stoppage.

'Politis' main front page story is the foot mouth vaccination, headlined 'Private Veterinarians Drafted for Vaccination'. It reports on the start of a marathon vaccination process, starting yesterday, using 10 thousand vaccines which arrived from the north. 'Politis' also refers to fears on the virus spreading to Dasaki Achnas farms, as well as a request by the Attorney General's Office to lift the immunity of MP Marinos Sizopoulos, to be heard at the Supreme Court next Tuesday.

'Free in Two Years' is the Phileleftheros front page headline, referring to the fact that the foot and mouth vaccination, more than battling the virus at the present time, provides the opportunity for Cyprus to reclaim a virus free status in two years. The front page also includes a story on the President's meeting with labour unions yesterday, pointing to a good climate and on the substance of issues, writing that the government is abandoning plans to reduce certain categories of pensions.

In its main front page story headlined 'No one taking responsibility for the spread of the virus,' 'Haravgi' claims that the government is trying to downplay the severity of the situation as well as blame livestock farmers. It also posts a photo from the AKEL General Secretary visit to Aradippou farms yesterday, noting that the party is in full support of farmers. In a separate story, it notes reactions to the lack of an environmental study on the Mazotos desalination unit.

The 'Cyprus Mail' main story is the trial over the suicide of 15 year old Stylianos in 2019, headlined 'Abused since birth'. It further refers to the foot and mouth crisis, focusing on measures and vaccinations, while also writing about changes on UK entry regulations for holders of a dual nationality.
