Weather Disturbance to Affect Cyprus Over Weekend With Rain and Possible Snow

Temperatures expected to drop on Saturday before gradually rising again by Monday.

A weather disturbance is expected to affect Cyprus intermittently until tomorrow, bringing changing conditions and a possibility of rain and isolated storms in several areas.

Today the weather will initially be mostly clear with locally increased cloud in western and northern areas. Cloud cover will gradually expand and isolated rain is expected after midday, while an isolated thunderstorm cannot be ruled out.

Winds will be mainly variable in the morning, light at 3 Beaufort, becoming south-westerly to north-westerly later in the day at light to moderate strength, 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be calm to slightly rough and locally slightly rough in south-western areas during the afternoon. Temperatures will rise to around 19°C inland and along the coasts and around 9°C in the higher mountains.

Conditions overnight

Tonight the weather will gradually become mostly clear, although periods of increased cloud may appear locally and isolated rain is possible along the northern coasts.

Winds will be mainly downslope, light at 3 Beaufort, while the sea will remain calm to slightly rough. Temperatures will fall to around 6°C inland, about 8°C along the southern and eastern coasts, around 9°C along the remaining coasts and about 2°C in the higher mountains, where frost is expected to form locally.

Rain and possible snow on Saturday

On Saturday, mainly after midday, local showers or thunderstorms are expected, particularly in mountainous areas and in western and southern regions.

At the highest peaks of Troodos, snow or sleet may fall as the area will be affected by a strengthened northerly airflow.

Weather outlook for Sunday and Monday

On Sunday and Monday the weather will be mostly clear, although locally increased cloud is expected to develop after midday.

Temperatures on Saturday will drop slightly below seasonal averages before gradually rising again by Monday.
