Overnight and dawn severe storms lashed across the Paphos district, which faced most of the intense rainfall effects over the past three days, have led to the flooding of a central avenue in Polis Chrysochous, while the Polis-Latsi road became impassable for hours, with authorities warning drivers on the network to watch out for inundated areas.

Polis Mayor Yiotis Papachristofi described the situation as 'unprecedented' and called on locals to restrict non-necessary movement as the Byron phenomenon is still ongoing and many road arteries remain flooded.

'There have also been a number of landslides and local authority crews were on site clearing out debris around the area', Papachristofi noted, adding that basements and businesses have flooded.

Writing on X, fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis reported 16 calls on flooded businesses and roads, with four crews responding, while the local Polis fire service station, has called in additional personnel.

He further said that municipality employees took over the cleaning of roads and storm drains.
