The Paphos fire service was called on more than 20 occasions in and around the city of Paphos, as the coastal city found itself in the eye of the powerful storms and heavy showers affecting the island since early afternoon.
Spokesperson Andreas Kettis said that storm drains were cleared out as many roads became inundated, in addition to several flooded home basements and businesses, with two crews responding.
The Limassol-Paphos motorway saw major delays with long queues due to the downpour and the hail which created slippery, dangerous conditions.
Personnel were called, with the local authority also contributing. Most calls were in the city, as well as the Yeroskipou and Konia areas.
Hail white blanketed a number of Paphos areas for many hours.
Waterspouts formed at sea off Paphos and moved inland, but weakened and without causing serious issues.
The deluge also affected top flight local football, with a waterlogged pitch forcing the postponement of the Paphos-APOEL first division derby.
