Rain, Thunderstorms and Snow Expected in Cyprus Mountains

Weather conditions will change gradually from Friday, with lower temperatures and snowfall possible on the highest Troodos peaks.

Weather conditions in Cyprus are expected to change in the coming days, with rain, isolated thunderstorms and snowfall forecast for mountainous areas. Temperatures are also expected to fall, particularly during the night and at higher elevations. Weak high pressure is currently affecting the region.

Weather conditions today

Today the weather will be mostly clear, with temporarily increased cloud cover in mountainous areas during the afternoon. Winds will initially be variable and light, later becoming mainly south-westerly to north-westerly, light to moderate, at 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be calm to slightly rough. Temperatures will rise to around 20°C inland and along the coasts, and around 10°C in the higher mountainous areas.

Weather conditions tonight

Tonight the weather will remain mostly clear, although increased cloud cover will be observed locally in western areas. Winds will blow mainly north-westerly to north-easterly, light at around 3 Beaufort, and the sea will remain calm to slightly rough.

Temperatures will drop to around 4°C inland, around 8°C along the coasts and about 1°C in the highest mountainous areas, where frost is expected to form locally.

Forecast for Friday to Sunday

On Friday, the weather will initially be mostly clear, but will gradually become partly cloudy and locally mostly cloudy, with isolated rain mainly in mountainous areas and inland regions. A brief isolated thunderstorm is also possible in southern inland areas, while snow or sleet may fall on the highest peaks of the Troodos Mountains. Thin dust may be observed in the atmosphere but is expected to subside by the evening.

On Saturday, the weather will gradually become mostly cloudy with local rain or thunderstorms, mainly in mountainous, western and southern areas, as well as snow or sleet in the higher mountainous regions.

On Sunday, the weather will be mostly clear.

Temperatures on Friday are not expected to change significantly. On Saturday they will decrease, reaching levels close to seasonal averages, where they are expected to remain on Sunday.
