The initiative aims to boost the international profile of the archaeological site and create new experiences for visitors.

The Kourion archaeological site is set to enter a new era of digital promotion, with the Limassol Tourism Development and Promotion Company (ETAP Limassol), supported by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, developing innovative digital products using artificial intelligence (AI).

According to a statement by the company, the initiative forms part of its ongoing efforts to upgrade and enrich the region’s tourism offering through technology and the creation of new, modern experiences for visitors.

The project aims to strengthen the international profile of the Kourion archaeological site while highlighting both its iconic monuments and less-visited sites through contemporary forms of digital storytelling and technology.

'Bring scenes from the past to life'

A key element of the project will be the creation of digital representations showing the monuments as they would have appeared at their height, using three-dimensional reconstructions.

AI will also be used to “bring scenes from the past to life”, the statement said. At Kourion’s ancient stadium, the project is expected to include reconstructions depicting ancient athletic competitions.

“Through this initiative, ETAP Limassol seeks to connect history and culture with technology, upgrading Limassol’s cultural and overall tourism product and enriching the visitor experience,” the statement said.

The initiative is also expected to contribute to strengthening the appeal of the Kourion archaeological site, attracting new visitors and further establishing the Limassol region as a modern and innovative destination.
