Marking World Photography Day, the French Institute of Cyprus announced on Wednesday the launch of RE-VISIONS, an international photographic residency that will take place in Malounta from 19 to 27 September 2026.
RE-VISIONS forms part of the official programme of the Bicentenaire de la Photographie, the French Ministry of Culture's major initiative commemorating 200 years since the invention of photography. The celebration will run from September 2026 to September 2027, with events taking place across France and in more than 30 countries.
Five emerging photographers from four countries
The Cyprus residency brings together five emerging photographers from four countries:
- Samar Bajomy
- Constantinos-Sophocles Constantinou
- Romane Iskaria
- Gaëtan Soerensen
- Ioanna Spentzou
The artists will meet in Malounta to explore, through photographic practice, themes of place, perception, memory and the multiple historical layers that shape a landscape.
RE-VISIONS aims to serve as a space for dialogue and experimentation, bringing together young creators with diverse backgrounds and photographic approaches.
During their stay in Cyprus, participants will develop new works inspired by their experience of the island.
Exhibition in Nicosia
The results of the residency will later be presented in Nicosia.
The exhibition will run from 26 November to 6 December 2026 at Garage Art Space, before the RE-VISIONS programme continues in Athens in 2027.
The programme is curated by Io Paschou, with Niki Chalkiadaki serving as artistic assistant and Catherine Louis Nikita overseeing production.
RE-VISIONS is organised by ACTUS ANIMA in collaboration with the French Institute of Cyprus, with support from the Deputy Ministry of Culture and the French Institute of Cyprus.
