Love Eat: 72 Hours in Athens - Three Culinary Stops Worth Adding to Your List

Now that weekend trips to Athens have become a classic getaway, the city overwhelms you with endless dining options. But if you only have time for a few stops, these three spots definitely deserve a place on your list.

A short getaway to Athens was enough to remind me why this city never ceases to amaze. If you’re also planning a weekend in the capital for a concert, a night out, or just a change of scenery, take notes.

These are the three spots worth adding to your list:

Ekiben

Number one… no surprises here. You saw it coming, you expected it, you knew it: we’re talking, of course, about Ekiben. If you’ve opened Instagram or TikTok in recent months, you’ve definitely come across it. Everyone’s posting stories with bao buns and bowls as if it’s the new national sport. Ekiben has even expanded its space to accommodate the army of hungry foodies who have it on their “must before the weekend ends” list.

Chicken Katsu

Ekiben is one of the city’s most talked-about spots for those who love Asian cuisine with a modern, street food twist. The space is relaxed yet thoughtful, full of vinyls and nostalgia, ideal for a lunch break or a casual dinner with friends.

Pork Katsu Sando

A must-try dish is the beef tartare; delicious, served with an egg yolk and perfectly mixed on the plate.

And of course, don’t miss the beef burger, which truly melts in your mouth.

Starlight Burgers

In second place, a relatively new addition to Athens’ street food list: Starlight Burgers. Its main location is at 1 Praxitelous Street, with another branch in Glyfada (9 Artemidos Street).

We opted for delivery, and the burgers turned out to be perfectly sized, juicy, and packed with flavor. We chose the house double burger, the true star of the menu.

Voulkanizater

Before leaving Athens, we chose to dine at Voulkanizater in Koukaki. The space, once an auto repair shop, won us over with its distinctive industrial style and an atmosphere balanced between restaurant and bar.

Among the dishes, the butter candle stood out, a small gastronomic surprise that sets the tone right away, along with the pasta with minced meat, which felt like a warm hug on a plate.

It was a lovely, relaxed experience that left us with the best taste to close our trip to the city.
