Greek singer Vasilis Papakonstantinou has reportedly been hospitalised in a private medical facility while dealing with a serious health problem, according to reports in the Greek media.
New reports suggest that his hospitalisation is unrelated to the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and persistent pneumonia previously mentioned publicly, but is instead linked to a different health issue that has not been disclosed.
According to Greek newspaper Espresso, the veteran performer has his wife, Eleni Rantou, and their daughter by his side as he undergoes treatment.
The reports come a day after fellow performer Giannis Zouganelis revealed that Papakonstantinou had been battling COPD, a condition that had affected his health in recent months.
However, it remains unclear what specific condition has led to his current hospitalisation, and no further details about his medical status have been released.
Summer concerts cancelled
On 20 August, Papakonstantinou announced the cancellation of the remainder of his summer concert tour, explaining that he was suffering from persistent pneumonia and was unable to continue performing.
At the time, he told fans: "I promise we'll see each other again soon."
A few days later, his name was also absent from the programme of the KNE-Odigitis Festival, an event with which he has long been closely associated.
What Zouganelis said
Speaking on the television programme For You on Sunday, Zouganelis discussed the singer's health and their longstanding friendship.
"Vassilis is not just my friend, he is like a brother to me. We've worked together more than 20 times over the years. He has COPD, so he was struggling. I think he will overcome it. I truly hope he does and returns to us stronger than ever," he said.
His comments reignited discussion about Papakonstantinou's health, but reports published on Tuesday suggest the singer is now receiving treatment for a different, undisclosed condition.
The exact reason for his hospitalisation remains unknown.
