Economic cooperation between Cyprus and Greece can be broadened further, allowing the two countries to jointly seize new opportunities across the wider region.

That was the central message of the 2nd Cyprus Business Presentations Summit in Greece, which focused on recent changes to Cyprus’s tax system that came into force on 1 January 2026.

The event, organised by communications company FMW Financial Media Way, was held in Athens with the participation of institutional representatives from Cyprus and Greece, officials from accounting and legal firms, and members of the business community.

The main speaker was Cyprus Tax Department Commissioner Sotiris Markides, who presented the tax changes in detail and outlined the advantages offered by Cyprus’s new framework.

Markides said the new tax system is simplified, functional and aligned with European Union standards, as well as with new trends in the international economy.

In his address, Dimitris Skalkos, Secretary General for International Economic Affairs and Extroversion at Greece’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and President of Enterprise Greece, focused on Cyprus-Greece economic cooperation and highlighted the scope for joint investment initiatives.

In a message read by Cyprus Embassy Commercial Counsellor Iosif Kypraios, Cyprus Ambassador to Greece Stavros Avgoustides said economic cooperation between Cyprus and Greece is developing in a very positive direction and has room to grow further. He added that the embassy supports every initiative that contributes to deepening that cooperation.

Addresses were also delivered by Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Stavros Stavrou and Cyprus-Greece Business Association President Iosif Iosif, who said closer economic ties between the two countries are needed in order to expand into new sectors and make better use of opportunities emerging in the wider region.

During the event, the Strategic Memorandum of Cooperation between Invest Cyprus and Enterprise Greece was renewed. The memorandum was signed by Invest Cyprus Director General Marios Tannousis and Enterprise Greece President Dimitris Skalkos.

In his remarks, Cyprus Ambassador to Greece Stavros Avgoustides said the development was not merely a formal renewal of an agreement, but a meaningful confirmation of a shared commitment to strengthening economic cooperation between Cyprus and Greece.

He said the two countries, bound by common values and close historical, cultural and economic ties, can and should act as multipliers of opportunity in the wider region.

Avgoustides added that cooperation between Invest Cyprus and Enterprise Greece is a clear example of how strategic alignment between institutions can become a practical tool for attracting investment, strengthening outward-looking business activity and creating new growth prospects.

For his part, Invest Cyprus Director General Marios Tannousis underlined the importance of closer investment ties between Cyprus and Greece, saying the two countries can achieve bigger goals together for their mutual benefit.
