Retail trade in Cyprus continues on an upward trajectory, with the country standing out for yet another month by recording the strongest growth among all EU member states.
According to data published on Thursday by Eurostat, retail turnover in Cyprus rose by 8.2 per cent in December 2025, compared with an average increase of 1.7 per cent across the European Union and 1.3 per cent in the euro area. December is traditionally a month of heightened consumer spending due to the Christmas holidays.
In November, Cyprus had recorded an annual increase of 8.5 per cent in retail turnover.
Among the member states for which data are available, the highest annual increases in total retail trade volume were observed in Cyprus (+8.2 per cent), Bulgaria (+7.7 per cent) and Luxembourg (+6.2 per cent).
By contrast, the sharpest declines were recorded in Slovakia (-5.1 per cent), Romania (-2.1 per cent) and Estonia (-1.0 per cent).
