The Government of Thailand announced that it has reached an agreement with Iran allowing its oil tankers to pass through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, which has been largely closed since the outbreak of the war in the Middle East a month ago.

According to the Thai authorities, the arrangement is intended to ensure the safe transport of fuel shipments destined for the country.

Assurance on fuel supply routes

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said during a press conference that an agreement has now been concluded allowing Thai oil tankers to transit the Strait of Hormuz safely.

The move, he added, is expected to help ease concerns regarding fuel deliveries to Thailand at a time when maritime routes in the region have been significantly disrupted.
