Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel supports US President Donald Trump’s decision to suspend strikes against Iran for two weeks, provided Tehran immediately reopens the straits and halts all attacks against the United States, Israel and countries in the region.

In a statement from the Prime Minister’s office in Jerusalem, Netanyahu said Israel also backs US efforts to ensure Iran no longer poses a nuclear, missile or terrorist threat to the United States, Israel, its Arab neighbours or the wider international community.

He added that Washington had informed Israel it remains committed to achieving these objectives in upcoming negotiations. The ceasefire, he noted, does not include Lebanon.

Opposition leader Yair Lapid sharply criticised Netanyahu, accusing him of failing to meet the war’s objectives.

“There has never been such a political disaster in our history,” Lapid wrote on X. “Israel was not even close to the negotiating table when decisions affecting the core of our national security were made.”

Israeli media have already drawn clear lines in their assessment of the US-Iran ceasefire. Pro-government and right-leaning outlets emphasise Israel’s conditional support and stress that Lebanon is not covered by the agreement.

Centrist and major news networks focus on whether Israel was sidelined in the negotiations, as well as the immediate domestic political fallout. Left-leaning outlets describe the ceasefire as fragile and high-risk, arguing it gives Washington room to negotiate while leaving Israel exposed to strategic uncertainty.
