The Lebanese army on Wednesday warned civilians against returning to the country’s south, where Israeli forces continue to carry out strikes, as Israel clarified that its ceasefire with Iran does not extend to Lebanon.
“Due to regional developments and circulating reports of a ceasefire, the army urges citizens to wait before returning to southern villages and towns and to avoid approaching areas where Israeli forces have advanced, as they may be exposed to ongoing attacks,” the army said in a statement.
An AFP correspondent in the Tyre region reported seeing a small number of civilians heading south, despite the warning. Hundreds of thousands have been displaced since Lebanon became involved in the conflict on March 2.
