A civil strife that has cost many thousands of lives over almost three years, but has largely remained out of mainstream media reporting and most importantly foreign peace interventions and initiatives, rages on, with the Sudan conflict entering a new phase, as government and paramillitaries vye to keep gains or control more territory.

In the latest incident, local officials said that the opposition Rapid Support Force launched drone attacks on the city of Kalogi, controlled by the tactical army in the state of Southern Cordofan.

Dozens were reported killed, including many children, the AFP reported.

A local authority officer, Islam Din Al Sayyed, told the French agency through a Starlink connection, that three strikes targeted a kindergarten, a hospital and people trying to save victims.

Al Sayyed blamed the RSF and its ally, the Northern Sudan Popular Liberal Movement, which have fought the recognised government armed forces, since April 2023.
