Workplace accident figures for the first half of 2026 and efforts to improve occupational safety were examined by the Pancyprian Council for Safety and Health.
The council met on Wednesday, 9 September, chaired by Dr Tasoula Kyprianidou-Leontidou, Acting Director of the Department of Labour Inspection, with representatives of the social partners.
Workplace safety measures reviewed
According to the department, the council examined workplace accident statistics for the first six months of the year, along with awareness-raising activities concerning safety and health at work.
Members were also briefed on matters handled during Cyprus’ Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2026.
New legislation and tools designed to help employers comply with occupational safety and health requirements were also presented.
Safe Pass programme to be expanded
The meeting also discussed training for workers in the construction sector through the Safe Pass programme.
It was agreed that the programme should continue and be strengthened. A technical committee will be established to oversee its further development and promotion.
