Missile interceptions across Gulf states
Elsewhere, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan and Kuwait reported intercepting missiles fired towards their territories. All four countries host United States military bases.
In Bahrain, large plumes of smoke were seen rising near the headquarters of the United States Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Manama. The extent of any damage remains unclear and the US has not commented.
In Doha, Qatar’s defence ministry said several missiles were intercepted, apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest US military base in the region.
Iran has said the strikes were carried out in response to ongoing attacks by the United States and Israel.
