Petros Nacouzi has been elected as the new Representative of the Maronite Religious Group in the House of Representatives, defeating Mario Mavridis in a closely fought contest with high participation.
According to the announcement of the Returning Officer for the Representatives of the Maronite, Armenian and Latin Religious Groups, 4,624 voters were registered, of whom 3,186 turned out to vote, recording a participation rate of 68.90%. Abstentions stood at 31.10%. Of the total ballots cast, 3,125 were valid, 34 invalid and 27 blank.
Nacouzi secured 1,606 votes, representing 51.39% of valid ballots, against 1,519 votes and 48.61% for his opponent Mavridis, a margin of just 87 votes. Based on the results, Nacouzi is elected Representative of the Maronite Religious Group in the House of Representatives. His official proclamation will take place on Monday 25 May 2026 at 12:00pm at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre.
