What businesses must do

The department calls on manufacturers, agents, distributors of the manufacturer, importers and sellers, including those operating online or remotely, who may have placed or are placing such products on the market of the Republic of Cyprus, to inform the Road Transport Department. It notes that, where these products are available in the Republic of Cyprus, the above economic operators must take all necessary measures for the products to be recalled as provided for in the relevant legislation.

What consumers should do

The department also calls on consumers who own the above vehicles to contact the manufacturer, agent or distributor of the manufacturer for instructions. Whether a person owns one of the above vehicles is also examined on the basis of the vehicle registration certificate (logbook) and the details it contains, such as the construction range and the model type/number.

As regards components, where deemed appropriate, the RTD calls on consumers to stop using them and return them immediately to the point from which they were obtained, where possible, informing the seller.

If a manufacturer, agent, distributor of the manufacturer, importer or seller refuses to respond to the above consumer rights, the consumer is invited to submit their complaint in writing to the Consumer Protection Service through the website www.consumer.gov.cy. For further information, consumers can contact the Road Transport Department or the email address recalls@rtd.mcw.gov.cy.
