The Police proceeded with the arrest of 19 individuals during the night in island-wide checks and patrols, for offences including illegal drug possession, theft, assault, intoxication and causing a disturbance in a public place, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol.
The numbers
According to a Police announcement, 606 vehicles were stopped for checks and 858 people travelling in them were checked. In parallel, 46 premises checks were carried out with the aim of tackling delinquency, resulting in seven bookings.
Traffic violations
During traffic checks, 293 bookings were made for various traffic violations, while 24 further traffic cases are under investigation. As part of police examinations, 17 vehicles were detained.
Of the traffic bookings, 112 concerned speeding and 24 drink driving. One case of driving under the influence of drugs also emerged, following preliminary narcotest checks. A total of 352 drivers were tested for alcohol and 10 for drugs.
Operations continue
Policing operations for the prevention and suppression of crime continue daily, the Police state, with an enhanced police presence, targeted checks and immediate operational action, aimed at protecting citizens and safeguarding public order.
