A quantity of more than one kilo of cocaine was ultimately concealed inside the body of a 28-year-old man, who had been detected and arrested on 6 July 2026 by members of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) and the Department of Customs at Larnaca Airport.
Eight days under medical watch
The 28-year-old had been hospitalised until Tuesday at Larnaca General Hospital, so that he could safely expel all the packages of cocaine hidden in his body. After expelling a total of 110 packages, with a total gross weight of one kilo and 110 grams, he was discharged.
Referred to the Criminal Court
He was then brought before the Larnaca District Court, where a case was filed against him. The Court referred the case for trial to the Larnaca Criminal Court, while ordering that the accused remain in custody until the next hearing, set for 5 October 2026.
The arrest of the 28-year-old was carried out following the assessment of information, as part of the joint actions of YKAN and the Department of Customs to detect persons importing drugs into the Republic, after relevant information was received by YKAN. The Unit continues its investigation of the case.
