An on-the-spot fine of €13,500 was issued on Saturday to a 36-year-old man, after 17 wild birds were found trapped in nets on a fenced field in the Larnaca district.
In an announcement, the Police Press and Public Relations Office said the investigation was launched after members of the Anti-Poaching Unit of MMAD located 17 wild birds trapped in poaching nets inside a fenced field in an area of the Larnaca district, on 8 September 2026.
At the scene, alongside five trapping nets, officers also found a device producing imitation bird calls.
The 17 live wild birds were released back into their natural habitat, while the investigation that followed established that the 36-year-old was the manager of the property.
The case is being investigated by the Kofinou Regional Police Station, in cooperation with the Game and Fauna Service.
At the conclusion of the investigation, officers from Kofinou Police Station issued the 36-year-old with an on-the-spot fine of €1,500, under the legislation on the protection and management of wild birds and game.
