The Attorney General, the Deputy Attorney General and the judges of the Supreme Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court will take home €9,504 a month net in 2027, €26 above President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides, whose net monthly pay will stand at €9,478. The figures come from state budget data for 2022 to 2027 compiled by Politis, which also show the significant effect of the Automatic Cost-of-Living Adjustment (ATA) on the pay of officials and civil servants.
Impact of cost-of-living adjustments
According to the data, the President's net monthly pay has risen by €1,815 since 2022, while that of the two heads of the Legal Service and the judges of the Supreme Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court has risen by €1,183.
The comparison is based on state budgets from 2022 to 2027. The 2027 state budget was submitted to the House of Representatives last Thursday for approval.
The ATA aims to partially restore the purchasing power of salaries during periods of rising prices for goods and services. Its payment is therefore particularly significant for the employees and officials who receive it, as well as for public and broader public sector pensioners when it is incorporated into their pensions. The data show in practice how officials' net monthly pay has grown over five years, as the figures include the increases resulting from the ATA.
How the figures are calculated
The amounts refer to net monthly pay, including allowances, after the deduction of income tax. According to the Treasury, tax is calculated without taking into account any other income or other tax exemptions and deductions.
Elected officials and government
President of the Republic: €7,663 in 2022, €8,611 in 2023, €8,889 in 2024, €9,050 in 2025, €9,103 in 2026 and €9,478 in 2027.
