An incident of heightened tension was reported in the Pachna area, where a crew from CyBC was covering the spread of foot-and-mouth disease in the local livestock zone.
The journalists had gone to the area to report on new infections, restriction measures and anxiety among farmers and local residents.
During the assignment, initial reports indicate that an incident occurred which led to an attack on the crew.
It is noted that at yesterday’s assembly of the 'Voice of Livestock Farmers' association, members unanimously agreed to take dynamic action to prevent planned culling and animal sampling.
The association’s president, Neophytos Neophytou, said farmers had decided against mass demonstrations, road blockades or actions linked to the forthcoming elections. He stressed that their efforts would focus exclusively on protecting their animals and their property.
As he stated, “people are outraged,” and for that reason members collectively decided to obstruct any culling or sampling procedures scheduled for the coming days.
