Police in the British Bases are continuing their investigation into the tragic deaths of two children in Xylofagou on Monday, with the children's father due to appear before the British Bases Court in Dhekelia on Thursday. His partner has been released without charge.

In a statement, British Bases Police confirmed that "investigations into the tragic deaths of the two children remain ongoing".

The force said the children's father is expected to appear before the British Bases Court, sitting in Dhekelia, at 12 noon on 2 July. It added that the father's partner "was released unconditionally earlier today".

"As the investigation remains ongoing, British Bases Police are not in a position to comment further on the circumstances surrounding the children's deaths, including the cause of death," the statement said.

Difficult time

Police also said they were unable, at this stage, to provide any information regarding the release of the children's bodies or funeral arrangements.

The statement added that British Bases Police "remain committed to carrying out a full, thorough and professional investigation" and will provide further information when appropriate.

The force concluded by appealing for the privacy of the family and all those affected by the tragedy to be respected during what it described as "this extremely difficult time".
