Christodoulides Meets EU's Von Der Leyen at Paris Visit

The president travels to the French capital for Bastille Day celebrations, where a Cyprus National Guard unit will also take part in the military parade.

President Nikos Christodoulides departs for Paris on Monday afternoon at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, to attend celebrations marking France's National Day. On Tuesday, 14 July, he will watch the French Armed Forces' military parade on the Champs-Élysées, alongside heads of state and government, and leaders of European Union institutions and international organisations.

A select unit of the National Guard of the Republic of Cyprus will also take part in the parade, following an invitation from the French Armed Forces. National Guard Chief Lieutenant General Emmanouil Theodorou is already in Paris ahead of the event.

During his stay in the French capital, President Christodoulides is expected to meet European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, along with holding contacts with other foreign leaders. He is accompanied by Deputy Government Spokesperson Yiannis Antoniou and government officials.

The president's return to Cyprus is scheduled for late Tuesday afternoon.
