New information has emerged in the investigation into the charred body discovered on Saturday morning in the Avgorou area, with police believing the deceased may be an elderly British man.
According to information available to investigators, efforts are continuing to formally identify the body and determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death.
The body was found outside a vehicle on a dirt road in the area, where a fire broke out at around 10am on Saturday.
Police officers and Fire Service personnel attended the scene and extinguished the blaze before beginning examinations.
Investigation continues
Based on the evidence gathered so far, authorities' initial assessment points to an accident, although investigations have not yet been completed.
Police are continuing inquiries to establish exactly what occurred and the circumstances under which the vehicle caught fire.
No formal identification of the deceased has yet been announced by the authorities.
