Scientific tests on samples taken during the post-mortem examination, which began on Thursday morning and concluded shortly before 4pm, are expected to provide answers regarding the cause of death of the five-month-old infant found dead on Tuesday evening.
The post-mortem was carried out at Nicosia Hospital by forensic pathologists Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou. According to police, the precise cause of death will be established through histopathological, toxicological, genetic and virological tests on the samples taken from the infant.
No external injuries found
According to police, the infant had been put down to sleep when, at around 8pm, its mother found that it was unresponsive. The infant was then taken to a private clinic, where its death was confirmed.
Tests carried out so far have not identified any external injuries on the infant's body.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact circumstances under which the tragic incident occurred.
