Gunmen Open Fire on Vehicle in Ayia Napa

A 33-year-old man escaped unharmed after unidentified assailants opened fire on his vehicle in Ayia Napa. Police are also investigating a burnt-out car found shortly afterwards in Avgorou and whether it is linked to the shooting.

Police are investigating an attempted murder case following a shooting targeting a vehicle driven by a 33-year-old man in the Famagusta district during the early hours of Friday.

According to police, at around 5:40am, the 33-year-old was driving in the Kokkines area of Ayia Napa when unidentified individuals opened fire on his vehicle.

No injuries were reported, although the vehicle sustained damage. The 33-year-old subsequently reported the incident to police.

According to information obtained by politis.com.cy, the 33-year-old is the brother of a convicted inmate serving a prison sentence in connection with the five-person murder case that took place in Ayia Napa in June 2012.

A short time later, police located a separate vehicle on fire in the Avgorou area.

Investigators are examining whether the burnt vehicle is connected to the shooting attack.

Police inquiries are continuing.
