Members of the Nicosia Crime Prevention Unit have found a large quantity of duty-free tobacco products in the possession of a 60-year-old man in Nicosia, following an assessment of information received.
According to a police statement, OPE officers carried out a search of the man’s home on Friday morning under a court-issued warrant as part of efforts to combat the illegal possession and sale of duty-free tobacco products.
During the search, officers found 361 cartons of cigarettes, 68 packets of cigarettes, 595 grams of pipe tobacco, 30 cigars, 1,400 cigarillos, one kilogramme of cigarette tobacco and 111 cartons of heated tobacco products.
The 60-year-old was arrested for an offence committed in the presence of police, while the tobacco products were seized by officers from the Customs Department.
The man and the confiscated tobacco products were subsequently taken to the Customs Department offices, which has taken over the investigation into the case.
