Firefighters remain on standby
The Fire Service secured the perimeter of the site and has kept a fully staffed fire engine at the scene as a precaution.
Kettis said an excavator was expected to arrive following coordination with the Municipality of Strovolos so that the material could be covered with soil and the fire fully extinguished.
Smoke spread by winds
Due to prevailing wind conditions, smoke from the fire spread across the wider Strovolos and Latsia areas, making it visible over a significant part of the district.
Emergency response
The Fire Service responded to the incident at 1:11am with two fire engines.
Authorities continue to monitor the area while efforts to fully extinguish the smouldering material remain under way.
