Cyprus, and specifically the extradition from Nicosia to Germany of one of seven men accused of involvement in a Hamas weapons procurement network, has been highlighted in a report published by Saudi broadcaster Al Arabiya.
The man, identified as Lebanon-born Kamel M., is among seven defendants against whom Germany's federal prosecutor has filed an indictment before the competent state security court in Berlin.
According to the indictment, the other defendants are also Lebanon-born Wael F. and Borhan el-K., Danish national Yousif K., German nationals Abed al-G. and Ahmed I., and Bulgarian national Mohammed S. All seven are described in the indictment as members or associates of Hamas.
Arrest at Larnaca Airport
Kamel M. was arrested by Cypriot authorities at Larnaca Airport on 6 March 2026 after arriving from Lebanon, on the basis of a European arrest warrant issued a month earlier.
He was extradited to Germany on 19 March and placed in pre-trial detention the following day by order of an investigating judge at the Federal Court of Justice.
According to the indictment, Kamel M. allegedly helped secure approximately 300 live rounds of ammunition in August 2025.
The ammunition was allegedly handed over, through fellow defendant Mohammed S., to Abed al-G., who prosecutors say played a central role in the network's procurement and distribution of weapons.
Prosecutors allege weapons stockpiled
German authorities allege that the defendants had assembled a fully operational automatic rifle, 13 pistols and more than 700 rounds of ammunition.
Some of the weapons were allegedly transported to and stored in Vienna, while a video claiming responsibility for a potential attack had also allegedly been prepared.
According to prosecutors, the group was planning a deadly attack against Israeli representatives, Jewish people or individuals with pro-Israeli positions in Germany or Austria, around the second anniversary of the 7 October 2023 terrorist attack.
Seven face multiple charges
The seven defendants are charged, among other offences, with membership of a foreign terrorist organisation, preparing a serious act of violence and breaches of weapons legislation.
They remain in pre-trial detention.
Their criminal responsibility will ultimately be determined by the German courts on the basis of the evidence presented in the proceedings. The allegations against them have not been established by a court.
