A fire caused extensive damage to a restaurant in the Lara area of Paphos district early on Friday, with initial findings pointing to a lightning strike as the cause.
According to the Fire Service, the emergency call was received at 2:55am for a fire at a metal-framed restaurant with a corrugated metal roof.
Fire brought under control
Two fire engines from Polis Chrysochous Fire Station responded to the scene.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control at 4:44am, nearly two hours after the initial call.
Roof collapses
The fire and intense heat caused extensive damage to the premises, while the restaurant's roof collapsed into the interior of the building.
The competent authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident, with a lightning strike cited as the apparent cause of the blaze.
