Limassol CID is investigating a case of abduction and grievous bodily harm involving a 24-year-old Turkish Cypriot man. Police are conducting inquiries and investigations to gather evidence that could lead to the arrest of those responsible.
Limassol Assistant Police Director Lefteris Kyriakou said the incident took place on Friday night. Police were informed today and called the 24-year-old to give a statement to Limassol CID investigators.
According to the investigation, the 24-year-old was in a park in the Agios Antonios area when three people forcibly took him to a car and drove him to a rural area. There, they beat him and wounded him with a knife, as they considered him a suspect in recent cases involving the theft of dogs.
“Statements are being taken at this time, and developments are expected in the coming period,” Mr Kyriakou said. He added that “investigations are under way and we are trying to secure such evidence that would allow us to request arrest warrants from the court.”
Asked why police had not been informed earlier, although the 24-year-old was taken to hospital and underwent surgery to treat his injuries, Kyriakou said: “We were not informed because he had put forward another claim (about his injuries).”
