Larnaca District Court today ordered the eight-day detention of a 19-year-old arrested on Friday at Larnaca Airport after around 28 kilos of cannabis were found in two of his bags.
As the Customs Department said yesterday, its officers at the airport checked the young man’s luggage after he arrived in Cyprus from Thailand via Dubai. The check followed an assessment of information received at Customs Headquarters about the possible transport of drugs into Cyprus.
According to the announcement, suspicion was further raised during the initial X-ray examination of the passenger’s two large bags. A physical search that followed uncovered 26 airtight nylon packages containing cannabis, with a total gross weight of around 28 kilos.
The drugs were seized by the Customs Department and handed over to D.A.O.E.-YKAN.
