Temperatures to Hit 31°C as Summer Spell Extends Into Next Week

The Meteorology Department forecasts mainly clear skies and above-seasonal temperatures for the coming days, with dusty conditions expected from Sunday.

A weak high-pressure system is dominating the region, bringing summer-like weather that is set to persist through Tuesday. Periods of airborne dust are expected from Sunday onwards.

Today will be mainly clear, though medium and high cloud cover will be present initially. Winds will start as light sea breezes, locally variable, at force 3, becoming mainly south-westerly to north-westerly by the afternoon at force 3 to 4, with gusts reaching force 4 to 5 in the south-west. The sea will be calm to slight. Temperatures will reach around 31°C inland, around 29°C on the southern and eastern coasts, around 25°C on the western and northern coasts, and around 20°C in the higher mountains.

Tonight will remain mainly clear. Winds will gradually become light katabatic at force 3, with calm to slight seas. Temperatures will drop to around 17°C inland and on the western, southern and eastern coasts, around 15°C on the northern coast, and around 12°C in the higher mountains.

Sunday, Monday and Tuesday will be mainly clear, with occasional spells of increased high cloud. Temperatures are not expected to change significantly through Tuesday, remaining above the seasonal climatological averages.
