A seasonal low-pressure system is affecting the region, while the Meteorological Department has issued an orange warning for extreme temperatures from 12:00 to 17:00 on Thursday.
Thursday forecast
The weather will be mainly fine.
Winds will blow mainly southwesterly to northwesterly and initially variable, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, becoming temporarily strong at 5 Beaufort on windward coasts during the afternoon.
The sea will be slight to a little rough.
Temperatures are expected to reach:
- 44C inland
- Around 37C on the eastern, southeastern and northern coasts
- Around 35C on the southwestern and western coasts
- 33C in the higher mountains
Overnight conditions
Tonight, the weather will remain mainly clear.
Later in the night and during the early morning hours, low cloud and light mist or fog are expected to form in places, mainly in southeastern areas.
Winds will become downslope and locally variable, light at 3 Beaufort.
The sea will remain slight to a little rough.
Temperatures will fall to:
- Around 24C inland and along the coast
- Around 21C in the higher mountains
Outlook
Friday will be mainly fine, although periods of increased cloud are expected locally.
On Saturday and Sunday, increased afternoon cloud could bring isolated showers, mainly over mountainous areas.
Temperatures are expected to decline noticeably and gradually through Saturday, before remaining largely unchanged on Sunday and returning to levels close to seasonal averages.
