The Cyprus Bar Association has called on the competent state authorities to investigate the conclusions of the Independent Anti-Corruption Authority, saying that the country’s reputation and public trust in institutions must be safeguarded.

In a statement, the association said the findings and observations of the Authority were being followed with “particular concern”, as they raise serious issues linked to good governance, accountability and the smooth functioning of institutions.

It said the matter should be examined through the constitutionally established procedures and with full respect for the presumption of innocence.

The Cyprus Bar Association added that it would continue to monitor developments and remains at the disposal of the state, within the framework of its institutional role.
