Holguín Meets Gerapetritis in Athens as Cyprus Diplomacy Continues

The UN envoy’s talks in Greece focused on the next steps in efforts to revive dialogue on the Cyprus problem.

 

UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Cyprus María Angela Holguín met Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis in Athens on Wednesday, as diplomatic contacts continue over the future of the Cyprus issue.

According to information, the meeting focused on the next steps in the process, with Gerapetritis reiterating Greece’s longstanding position in favour of the immediate resumption of talks and a settlement based on a bizonal, bicommunal federation and the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

The Greek Foreign Ministry had announced that the meeting would take place in Athens on June 17 at 11:00 a.m.

Holguín’s visit to Athens forms part of her latest round of contacts, as the UN seeks to assess whether conditions can be created for renewed movement on the Cyprus problem.
